Milking Almost a Gallon, 2023, Detail
Milking Almost a Gallon
Installation
lashing belts,
plastic canisters, magnets, used engine oil, HT discharge pipes,
steel wire, funnels, filters, PVC tubes,
PE foil
580x250x200cm
'Mara Kirchberg‘s work «Milking Almost A Gallon», which received the main prize, rises vertically above the room and is therefore visually one of the most dominant. The filter system, consisting of plastic canisters, funnels and PVC hoses pulled down to the ceiling with lashing belts, milks four and a half liters of engine oil per day, which accumulates in membranes that are open from the top on the ground. [...] She has been experimenting with motor oil in her practice for some time and showed the same material in combination with potatoes, iron and artificial intestines at the Kanuti Gildi SAAL residency showing. In the ARS Project Space, the train of thought has reached one of the most potential expressions. What convinces and fascinates me here is the installation‘s extreme material sensitivity and timeliness. Pieces from car workshops and medical equipment have been used. The system, which works for the duration of the entire exhibition and is alive in front of the audience, represents the fragility of human life and the robustness of its surroundings.'
